It's officially October, and welcome to my first post of my publication, This Month With Cristobal. If you've been familiar with my Substack posts, especially my lifestyle Substack publication, Keeping Up With Cristobal, thank you for finding your way into this Leaflet publication.
I will be posting here every month or so, so I hope you'll get comfortable.
Overall Feeling of September
Overall, I felt fine in September. I did notice details, the same ones that affect my relationship with my family in the shared household which does involve an unpredictable change in routine. I'm autistic, and I need to regulate changes and sameness for myself every now and then. I did have a bad first night of autumn, with my mom crying tantrum when I disagreed with her stance of siding with my siblings over who's bedtime is important. My mom is and will always be the problem of why I live a sitcom life.
Celebrating Four Months of A Bagel for a Father Figure
This year back in May the 2nd, I self-published my first book, a memoir called A Bagel for a Father Figure, via Barnes & Noble Press.
The book is about my experience throughout my four years at Back of the Yards College Prep, or BOYCP. It's filled with vignettes that are funny, scary, strange, and compelling. The title is referencing of course my favorite teacher in high school, Mr. Nagle.
I do talk about the shenanigans I've had with Mr. Nagle, while also discussing how I felt and miscommunicated my feelings to Omar.
I have made money on the book, but it's not like I've made a bestseller or anything. I've just made a local following with A Bagel for a Father Figure.
Returning to Flipnotes
Flipnotes, specifically made with Flipnote Studio, are one of my main special interests.
After taking a break due to my siblings ruining how much of an imaginative playground flipnotes are, I returned to making flipnotes.
The first completed project was an episode of The Working Girls, made on Google Slides. All I can say is that the zine version of The Working Girls is much tamer than the flipnote version.
The next project was my imaginary friend Happy's first flipnote film called "Creepy Things." Proud of her!
Two Zine Projects Made
I had three zine projects, where I make a half-page zine booklet, open and I finished one. It's called The Cristobal Era and the first issue is called "Friends with Benefits: The Remake."
Then, on October Eve, I made a new issue of The Working Girls, a series of literary minizines about four women who share friendship and work as groundskeepers at a park.
The fourth issue is about the girls during a morning at the start of October.
Those zines will be coming soon to my Ko-fi Shop.
Still Waiting to Do a Live Stream
While I make videos for YouTube, Open.Video, and my socials, it has been a dream of mine to do a live stream. I'm still waiting for Skylight Social to figure out how they'll incorporate live streaming to their platform.
My ideas for a first stream would be to go over my zine collection. That I know.
I guess that's it for my review of September 2025. Thank you so much for reading, and I'll catch you guys on the next This Month With Cristobal. Later guys!
xoxo, Cristobal Martinez
